I first met Tabitha Coleman, Green Schools Nova Scotia, Northern NS Engagement Officer, at the Communities in Bloom Symposium in Charlottetown PEI in September. Their mandate is to bring schools together with one common goal to adopt better energy habits and become more sustainable. Our work at NFL definitely ties right into their program teaching students in soil science and sustainability. I had a chance to travel with Tabitha in January and we visited 5 fantastic schools in her area. We started off with Debert Elementary, then Pictou Landing, Trenton Middle school, St. Andrew’s Middle and finished off at New Glasgow Academy. I was able to chat with all the Green School leaders and give them an introduction to Nutrients for Life, provide some of our great materials such as the posters and leaflets. They all see the importance of what we do and some are very interested in getting some learning gardens going and teaching their students about how food is produced. I want to thank Tabitha for her time and hard work to give me the great opportunity to connect with these great schools. I hope that we can continue to work together to help educate our youth!
