About our Garden

Please describe your garden, is it raised beds, in the ground, do you have a greenhouse?

We have a garden tower in the Foods and Nutrition classroom.

What vegetables/fruit do you grow in your garden? What do you have a difficult time growing in your school garden?

A variety of salad greens, herbs, and tomatoes

Why did your school decide to add a school garden?

We would like our students to cook with fresh produce in the foods lab.

What classes participate in the garden, what subjects are taught in the garden?

Foods and Nutrition grades 9-12
Flowers were grown and given to the kindergarten class to use for their projects in the spring of 2020.

Who manages the garden day to day? Who manages the garden over the Summer break?

Mrs.Main and her Foods and Nutrition class.
Over the summer break, Mrs.Main managed the garden so when the students came back in the fall there were tomatoes growing.

What do you do with the harvest from your garden? Do you have a harvest celebration? Do you use it in the cafeteria, or culinary classes? Do you donate some of the produce?

Everything that is grown in our garden is used in the Foods and Nutrition class during their cooking labs.

Do you have community involvement? Do you have parents and volunteers? Have been able to source other funding to help your garden grow?

No, the Foods and Nutrition class maintains the tower garden

Any words of encouragement/tips for a school starting a school garden?

We are loving having the garden and using it as a learning tool in our classroom.
