About our Garden

Please describe your garden, is it raised beds, in the ground, do you have a greenhouse?

We used the funds to buy everything we needed to successfully run a garden including:
- gardening gloves and knee rests
- soil
- seeds and bulbs
- stakes and tomato cages
- garden tape, string and nets
- shovels
- garden markers
- indoor potting pods and pots to start our plants inside

What grade levels worked in the garden and did you or another teacher link some of your curriculum outcomes to the garden?

Our garden has not been built yet (Spring 2023) but when it is the grade 3 and 4 students will be in charge of it.
It directly links to their science curriculum on soils and plants.

What vegetables/fruit do you grow in your garden? What do you have a difficult time growing in your school garden?

We are planning to grow vegetables and flowers in our garden. Because we haven’t grown anything yet we are not sure if we will have a difficult time growing but we are hoping we don’t!

Who manages the garden day to day? Who manages the garden over the Summer break?

Students/ classroom teachers will manage the garden day to day. Our PAC will be helping out throughout the summer to make sure it stays maintained.

We are also hoping to grow things with a quicker harvest so students can see their growth before the end of the school year.

Do you have community involvement? Do you have parents and volunteers? Have been able to source other funding to help your garden grow?

We have our PAC involved with our garden, helping out in the summer.

We will be using our class budgets to buy seeds and materials as needed.

What are your future plans for the school garden?

We are hoping to grow a successful garden each year and have the students take ownership of it, deciding what they want to grow, buy it and then plant and tend to it.
