About our Garden

Please describe your garden, is it raised beds, in the ground, do you have a greenhouse?

The school garden project is a phase planned in our outdoor classroom. We decided on the project to get kids outside more and exploring. Especially with the current pandemic more than ever we find it important to explore other avenues of educating youth while being outside. Students and teachers were involved in the decision making to discover what elements to a garden would be educational, interesting and worthwhile. Currently it has been a slow process but we are making ground. Getting a hold of lumber was delayed which pushed our project into colder months. So installing the garden will be pushed back to the spring. We have lumber lined up to put together garden beds. With this grant we were able to purchase essential components to maintaining our garden in the new year. We purchased four rain barrels, hoses, watering cans and tools. We look forward to the project coming together soon in the spring. This grant made it possible to obtain these essential supplies to have our garden up and growing once the weather allows. This project will provide students with more hands on knowledge about where our food comes from, the life cycles of plants, and how plants grow. We look forward to using your teacher resources and taking what we can to our students to learn.

What are your future plans for the school garden?

The next steps for our project will be waiting for spring so we can start installing our garden boxes, purchasing soil and start planting! We hope to obtain a few more grants to help with the costs of soil and plants. Then we look forward to getting the kids outside to take advantage of the new school garden.

Any words of encouragement/tips for a school starting a school garden?

We really appreciate this grant in helping towards our goal of a school garden to help educate our children for years to come!
