What do you do with the harvest from your garden? Do you have a harvest celebration? Do you use it in the cafeteria, or culinary classes? Do you donate some of the produce?
During the Garden Day Celebration Braemar students participated in a tomato planter workshop where they learned about companion planting, plant care and recipes. They participated in taste testing store-bought salsa with homemade salsa. They also prepared basil pesto with their children using a mortar and pestle at our sensory station. We purchased edible flowers, various herbs, tomato plants and medium sized pots for the personal planters. Students have reported that their young toddlers are helping them water their planters at home. During garden day, our school community planted seeds in the garden beds. We are seeing exceptional growth this year in the garden beds.
Do you have community involvement? Do you have parents and volunteers? Have been able to source other funding to help your garden grow?
