Garden Blessing at Elsipogtog School

It was a beautiful day with a light breeze and there was excitement in the air! It was the day of the annual school garden blessing, family fun day and BBQ at the school. We started off the day in the garden, and this year, we were very fortunate to be able to video tape the event to showcase what a fantastic job they are doing for the school and community. There was a great presence from community members, students, Canadian Feed the Children and many Elders from the community. We were blessed by Elder Josie Augustine, and learned about the traditions of the community and the importance of blessing this great space. New this year in the garden, each Elder of the community were given a raised garden bed, and they were able to hire, Margaret Augustine, to manage the garden for the summer. Her enthusiasm and passion for gardening is drawing the community closer together. Once the blessing was over , their was an Elder tea and it was time for the fun and games to begin at the school. The staff of the school led the games and BBQ to help celebrate the end of the school year and the garden. Since the end of the school year, they have created a facebook page, where updates on what is ready to harvest, when the gates are open and celebrating the many fruits of their labour.
