It’s the year 2050…
If we fast-forward to the future of 2050 similar to the 1973 science fiction world view from “Soylent Green” how would the youth of 2050 describe our practices, our food, and our fields? Will their digital postcards reflect our true landscapes, our waters, and our air? I am optimistic we will not be in need of any “Soylent Green” but how can inspire our leaders of tomorrow and how can we help them grow a greener future?
Educating Youth in 4R Nutrient Stewardship
Youth of tomorrow are being educated today using 4R Nutrient Stewardship in efforts to bring back the science surrounding sustainable food production and agriculture. 4R Nutrient Stewardship helps to address a number of key issues including excessive phosphorous loadings, nitrates in groundwater, and reductions in nitrous oxide through improved nutrient use.
Nutrients For Life Canada has been working in building momentum towards incorporating 4R Nutrient Stewardship practices into their curriculum based education programs and activities for youth. Focusing on soil science testing and research, issue based learning, incorporating basic concepts of Right Source, Right Rate, Right Time, and Right Place, and water quantity and quality challenges with sustainable nutrient use.
My question for you is – How are you working towards educating youth in 4R Nutrient Stewardship?
