What vegetables/fruit do you grow in your garden? What do you have a difficult time growing in your school garden?
Tomatoes, peppers, strawberries, carrots, lettuce, green onions, radishes, sunflowers
Why did your school decide to add a school garden?
Increase additional outdoor education and teach sustainability
What classes participate in the garden, what subjects are taught in the garden?
All classes have participated mostly science and math classes have been taught so far
Who manages the garden day to day? Who manages the garden over the Summer break?
Gr 5-8 manage during school. Teachers and parents manage over the summer
What do you do with the harvest from your garden? Do you have a harvest celebration? Do you use it in the cafeteria, or culinary classes? Do you donate some of the produce?
We share our gardens with the community of Thamesville
Do you have community involvement? Do you have parents and volunteers? Have been able to source other funding to help your garden grow?
A couple parents help to maintain over the summer, as well as anyone from the community who picks from the garden ("pick a couple weeds, pick a couple veggies")
What are your future plans for the school garden?
We are hopeful to expand our garden boxes this year to include more Fall veggies
