Why did your school decide to add a school garden?

to help support curriculum and engage students in outdoor learning and education.

What classes participate in the garden, what subjects are taught in the garden?

All classes P-5

Who manages the garden day to day? Who manages the garden over the Summer break?

Students, teachers, EAs, parent volunteers

What do you do with the harvest from your garden? Do you have a harvest celebration? Do you use it in the cafeteria, or culinary classes? Do you donate some of the produce?

Tomatoes were used in the cafeteria to make spaghetti sauce for our cafeteria menu. The rest of the vegetables were harvested and prepared by our grade 5 students and a guest chef. They prepared and cooked a pasta dish for the whole school. It was our second annual harvest lunch.

Do you have community involvement? Do you have parents and volunteers? Have been able to source other funding to help your garden grow?

Parents volunteer over the summer for weeding and watering. Parents also volunteer in the kitchen for our harvest celebration.

What are your future plans for the school garden?

Continue planting and our annual harvest lunch.
