Please describe your garden, is it raised beds, in the ground, do you have a greenhouse?
The garden has raised beds, and was recently renovated and expanded on.
What vegetables/fruit do you grow in your garden? What do you have a difficult time growing in your school garden?
We have a variety of veggies -- beans, cucumbers, corn, squash, potatoes, garlic and a number of herbs. We also have tomatoes, eggplants, kale, chard and lettuce.
Why did your school decide to add a school garden?
This was done in the 1980's as part of a movement to "green" the school grounds which had all been paved.
What classes participate in the garden, what subjects are taught in the garden?
All the classes participate!
Who manages the garden day to day? Who manages the garden over the Summer break?
The school has a lead teacher, and a strong group of parents involved. There is also a group of parents involved in the summer, mostly with watering.
What do you do with the harvest from your garden? Do you have a harvest celebration? Do you use it in the cafeteria, or culinary classes? Do you donate some of the produce?
We have a harvest celebration, and we share it with the community.
Do you have community involvement? Do you have parents and volunteers? Have been able to source other funding to help your garden grow?
Yes we do! Mostly the parents.
What are your future plans for the school garden?
To continue to engage the school and wider community in its upkeep.
