Our soil and plant science educational materials for middle and high schools, Nourishing the Planet in the 21st Century, were developed by the Biological Sciences Curriculum Study (BSCS). Since 1958, BSCS has specialized in designing science curricula for today’s students and teachers.
The development of our educational materials involved collaboration between working scientists, specialists in education, classroom instructors and students. To ensure scientific accuracy, our educational materials were officially reviewed by the Smithsonian Institution, the largest research body and museum complex in the world, and the International Plant Nutrition Institute. The educational materials were field tested by teachers and students at 18 schools across the United States and this feedback was used to guide revisions.
We are developing educational materials that address the unique educational needs of Canadian students and teachers like you. The materials are currently being adapted to meet Canadian provincial science standards by a team of curriculum specialists led by Dr. Maurice DiGiuseppe of the Faculty of Education of the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT). We are working on adapting curriculum for all provinces in the near future, and are in the process of creating educational materials for the province of Quebec.
