Environmental Stewardship
Nutrients for Life supports science-based guidelines to meet society’s need for safe, nutritious and abundant food while protecting the environment. Nutrient management is required for the preservation of green spaces such as lawns, gardens, parks and sports fields in communities across the country. It’s everyone’s responsibility to conserve and enhance our soil and protect our air and water.
Over the past 40 years, the use of plant nutrients, precision application methods and other agronomic technologies have enabled North American farmers to triple crop production while using less land.
Nutrient management provides farmers, homeowners and municipal officials with a variety of science-based best management practices (BMPs) to ensure plant nutrients are applied responsibly.
BMPs are designed to ensure crops get the nutrients they need while minimizing nutrient losses to the environment. Industry continues to work with government, university and private sector researchers to further develop BMPs.
